: In some cases DVD drive can't be found by Windows 7, even though if it's seen in the BIOS and using the standard driver.

Here are some steps to fix this issue:
1. Start->run-> REGEDIT
2. Locate the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\,
3. Delete both UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the right-hand pane (UpperFilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak entries can be ignored).

Click Start->type Disk Management ->"Create and format hard disk partitions" link. If your optical drive is visible here then right-click it-> Change Drive Letter and Paths-> Change and choose a new letter. If the drive is now seen in Explorer, then repeat the steps to change the drive letter back; if it's still not seen, restart the PC and it should visible.

Type regedit in the windows 7 start menu. The windows 7 registryeditor will open up.
Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass.Now in the right hand pane, delete both UpperFilters and LowerFilters (UpperFilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak entries can be ignored).
Now that would bring back your missing dvd drive in windows 7.
If that dont fix the problem, the next thing to do is to alter the drive letter of the DVD drive.
For this Type Disk Management in the windows 7 start menu and press enter.no+dvd+drive+error (FIX) DVD Drive Not Found in Windows 7
You will see the Disk Management windows opening up.
Now right click on your DVD drive in the bottom panel and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Change the drive letter of the DVD drive to some other (If it was H change it to I or some other).
Now Restart Your system. And Your DVD drive should be there. You may now change the DVD drive letter back to the previous one.
