External hard drive issue on windows 7

Postby leroy » Tue Jul 20, 2010 6:48 am

Today I installed windows 7on main hard drive. The installtion works fine but
but I can't access my external hard drive. When plugged in, I got the message:
"USB Device not recognized: One of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."
Any ideas?

This is undoubtedly a driver issue. I would suggest contacting either OEM or the motherboard manufacturer and get the most latest chipset drivers for your motherboard. Once you have resolved the issue with the USB hub drivers Windows 7 will recognize your external USB drive.

I had a very similar problem, I installed windows 7 last weekend my external drives became inaccessible, giving the same error message as above.

"USB Device not recognized: One of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."
After a fresh reboot it worked fine and I could view the files that are on the drive. However, as soon as I tried to run a backup to the drive and copied a large number of files I got a "Delayed Write Error"... then I had to reboot to re-recognize the drive. I also run check disk and WD diagnostic tools and the drive worked perfectly fine so this really seems like a Windows 7 problem.
