How to change windows 7 Control Panel to classic view?

Postby gabriel » Tue Jul 20, 2010 6:08 am

I have recently installed windows 7 and cannot change the Control Panel to the classic view. I afraid that modifying the registry could mess up my PC if not done correctly. Can anyone let me know how to change the Windows 7 Control Panel to classic view?

Here are the steps.

(2)Click->Start->Run->regedit->Enter
(3)Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer.
(4)Find the REG_DWORD value "ForceClassicControlPanel" and double click it.
(5)In the "Edit DWORD Value" window change the value data form field to "1" ->OK
(5)Press F5 key to refresh. Now, close out to the desktop.
(6)Click Start-> Control Panel.Here you will see all Control Panel icons instead of the category view.

Here is another method

(2)Click on User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Control Panel.
(3)In the right pane Rt click on Always open All Control Panel Items when opening the Control Panel ->Properties.
5. To Make All Items View the Default (Select Enabled) ->OK
6. To Make Category View the Default(Select Not Configures or Disabled.) -> OK.
7. Close the Local Group Policy Editor window.
