First you have to set Windows 7 to hide a file’s extension.
Steps to set Windows 7 to hide a file’s extension.
(1)Click on start-> Control Pane-> Open Folder Options->View

Note: If you do not find Folder Options, then change View by to Large icons at the top right of the Control Panel.
(2)Check off the option” Hide extensions for known file types”
(3)OK
After completing the above steps you can create a new file by right click. Make a text document and give .cmd extention instead of .txt
