1) First ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for windows 7
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

DVD drive (only to install from DVD/CD Media)

(2) Make sure to have windows 7 or vista drivers for your display and networking adapters. You can also search for drivers at windows 7-compatibility center
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compat ... fault.aspx

(3) Make a note of all the login accounts on your PC because you will need to re-create them in Windows 7.

(4) Use Macrium backup to make an image backup of your hard drive.

Steps to create image backup of your harddrive

(1)Make sure to have a second physical hard drive and should have sufficient disk space to store the backup.
(2)Download the Macrium Reflect software.
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp
(3)Run the Macrium software. You will require Internet access to self-register.
(4)You will get a screen with information about all the hard drives.
(5)Highlight the drive you want to image or backup. For example highlight “C:” drive
(6) To backup the drive you chosen, look at the four icons above the drive information. You will see a picture of a yellow folder with a grey hard drive over it. It is left of the drive with a green check mark. This is the “Create an Image of the Selected Partition or Disk” Button.
(7) Click on the button “Create an Image of the Selected Partition or Disk”-> Select the backup hard disk drive ->click Next.
(8)You will get a window with a finished button. Click this button to begin the imaging.

The completion time depends on the amount of information that has to be backed up. A drive with 40 GB of information can take about 1 hour to back up.
