Remove or hide Internet Explorer 8.0 search box in windows 7

Postby clement » Tue Sep 08, 2009 4:51 am

Today I have installed IE 8.0 on windows7. After installation of IE 8.0 the Search box was added in the top right corner of my browser. Now I want to remove or hide the search box in IE8. Is there any way to hide this search bar in IE 8.0?

You can remove IE Search Box through Group Policy Editor
Start=>Run=>type GPEdit.msc.
Navigate to
Local Computer Policy -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates ->Windows Components -> Internet Explorer.
In the right pane double click on Prevent Internet Explorer search box from displaying option and set it to Enable->OK->close and re-open browser

Hide or remove IE Search Box through Registry Editor

:Another method to Disable IE Search Box
(1) Start->Run->Type RegEdit.exe
(2) Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\InfoDelivery\Restrictions
(3) Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value named as NoSearchBox data, and set its value to 1.
(4) Exit Registry Editor.
(5) Close and re-open IE browser.
