Steps to Identify your issue in windows 7

Steps to Identify your issue in windows 7

I like Windows 7: it's faster than Vista, makes good use of your resources and is bundled with awesome features, and looks great, too. But that does not mean it's perfect, of course. If you have upgraded to Windows 7 recently then you may have noticed many upgrade issues, and interface issues. Here are a few things you would like to check before spending time to type out your issue. You can fix the issue much easily if you check the following:

(I just hope other users will also contribute to this list.. these are just some of the points that I can think of right now.)

Click Start ->Run->type "ev" ->press Enter and it will launch the Event Viewer. Look under Custom at the Administrative logs. Check your Event Viewer log files to see if any errors are being recorded
Click Start>Run->type "Device Manager" and look for any driver errors often with a yellow triangle.
3. Click Start ->Run-> type "perfmon /report" and press enter to get a report of your system's health.

4. Click Start ->Run->type "Find" and you will get a menu containing "Find and Fix" utilities.
Title: Solution to fix DVD drive issue
Oswold: In some cases your DVD drive may not be found by Windows 7, even if it is shown in the BIOS.
Here is the solution
(1)Start->Run-> run->Type REGEDIT
(2)Navigate to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
(3)Remove both UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the right-hand pane (UpperFilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak entries can be ignored).

How to solve “My computer” icon issue after installing new t

Postby bonaventure » Tue Aug 03, 2010 5:17 am

Recently I have installed Windows 7 spectacular new themes from microsoft site. But after installing them “my Computer” icon disappeared and replaced by the equivalent icon from the theme pack. To prevent this you should right-click an empty part of the desktop, select Personalize > Change Desktop Icons-> clear the "Allow themes to change desktop icons" box and click OK. In this way Your icons will be preserved.
