Run the following command at command prompt

powercfg -energy -output \Folder\Energy_Report.html

Windows 7 will analyze your laptop and give you a report in HTML format. Then you can follow its suggestions to enhance your power performance.

If you have disabled UAC completely, then you will not be able to use your desktop gadgets, because Windows assume they are a potential threat.
Here are some steps you can do to be able to use gadgets with UAC disabled:
1. First of all create a Restore point or backup the Registry
2. Start->run->type Regedit
3.Navigate to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Settings
4.Create a new DWORD value called AllowElevatedProcess. To do that select Edit - New DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it AllowElevatedProcess
5. Set its value to 1
6. Close Registry Editor. Right-click on desktop and select Gadgets. Now you will be able to add and use gadgets as you would normally.
Title: Search the Internet from the Start Menu
Ian: Many users simply overlook the Start Menu but there is actually many things you can do with it.
For example
Start->Run->type GPEDIT.MSC ->press enter->User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Start Menu and Taskbar.
7. Double-click "Add Search Internet link to Start Menu," -> select Enabled->OK

So now whenever you write a search term in the Search box, a "Search the Internet" link will appear. Click on the link to open the search in your default Internet browser with your default search engine.
