Win 7 vs. XP Network Connection

Win 7 vs. XP Network Connection

Postby melvin » Thu Jun 04, 2009 2:52 am

I just installed Windows 7 to a dual boot with the existing Windows XP, and now when I get on windows 7, I can access the Internet, but when I am on XP, it gives the error message “Limited or no connectivity”. How can I fix this problem?

You can try the following steps to fix this problem
1. Unplugged the Ethernet cable and swap the ends and plug it back in to the modem.
2. Try Un/Reinstall the NIC Card. It could be even the problem with the drivers at times.
3. Right Click on the Local Area Network and select the option "Repair".

I have tried all these steps but still the same problem. I am not sure what the problem is before installing Windows 7 everything was fine on XP.

Limited Connectivity generally means that the wireless router has not assigned an IP address to your computer. Check the router and its settings.

I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall. I have set the router to use the static address and have set the computer also to automatically get an IP address. Still getting the same error message.

Run the command Netsh WinSock Reset from the command line. This command will rebuild network settings from scratch.
