Windows has focused it efforts on providing the most user-friendly and beneficial programs and features for its users. To start things off, they have done away with the following previous Windows programs:

    Windows 7 Calendar
    Windows 7 Contacts
    Windows 7 Meeting Space
    Windows 7 Messenger
    Microsoft 7 Outlook Express

Most Used Programs in Windows 7

Windows 7 Internet Explorer 8. Windows paid attention to its competitors and created a browser that has all of the features you love. Doing this has kept the Internet Explorer at the top of the list for browser usage.

Windows 7 Media Player. A tool designed specifically for playing audio and video files in your library and online media.

Windows 7 DVD Maker This tool allows you to burn and copy DVDs in the comfort of your own home. You can edit titles, chapters and other effects.

Windows Update. This utility is easy to use and provides a safe net for your computer, by making sure all of your drivers, programs and Windows components are up-to-date.

Windows Media Center. This tool allows you to view television programs, movies, and presentations. With a TV tuner, you can play audio and video through your TV. Its audio capabilities include listening to live radio programs, your personal music library, and any audio media online.

Desktop Gadget Gallery. This sidebar is very similar to the Windows Vista sidebar. This feature allows you to add personal gadgets to your Desktop, and arrange or edit the gadgets in any way you would like.

WordPad. This more sophisticated word-processing program supports rich text formatting and character and paragraph styles.

Paint. The desktop publishing program allows you to create and edit drawings. It supports the following formats: .bmp, .gif, .jpg, .png, and .tif.

Notepad. A text editor sued to create text-only and HTML documents.

Windows Fax and Scan. This utility allows you to send and receive faxes. Windows automatically records all faxing information. This tool can also be used with the Scan utility to send important images and digital information.

Games. The following games are included with Windows 7: Internet Checker, FreeCell, Hearts, Internet Backgammon, Internet Spades, Mahjong Titans, Chess Titans Minesweeper, Purble Place, Solitaire, and Spider Solitaire. You can always visit the Microsoft website to download more games.

Windows Journal. An electronic note-taking tool that can be used for personal notes; recorded, typed, and handwritten.

Calculator. A much appreciated tool that has been with windows for years. This simple calculator can handle your accounting problems.

Sticky Notes. These are electronic sticky notes that you can place on your desktop. You can use this for personal notes and recording information.

Snipping Tool. Similar to taking a screenshot, only this tool allows you to take images of sections of your screen. You can save the image in the following formats: JPEG, HTML, GIF, or PNG.

Math Input Panel. This new tool converts mathematical equations to text. It is perfect for your mathematical needs.


Windows 7 Features

Aerosnap. This tool allows you to view documents side by side on your screen, by simply dragging them there. To maximize your window, drag it to the top of your screen.

AeroPeek. This tool does literally what it says. By hovering the mouse in the bottom, right hand corner of the screen, you are allowed take a closer look at your desktop.

InPrivate Browsing. This tool allows you to browse the internet “in private”. It keeps temp files, cookies, and other data from being stored when browsing.

Federated Search. This tool allows you to perform searches outside of your computer.

User Account Control(UAC). Windows has made great improvements with the UAC, and is now more user-friendly and most importantly, efficient. To change your UAC settings, Press Start, type UAC, click Change User Account Control Settings, and choose a security level for your UAC.

Windows HomeGroup. With suggestions from it users, Windows has improved this feature by making it more simple and easy to do. Windows understands and has made the networking process more beneficial for home users. After making changes, simply click Create Now to save them. A password will be shared among all users to allow them to connect to HomeGroup. To add more computer to your HomeGroup, follow the instructions below:

1. Connect to the network where HomeGroup is located. (You will be prompted to join the HomeGroup.)
2. Click Join Now
3. Type your password. (Choose what you would like to share.)
4. You have now been entered into the HomeGroup.

To access your files on HomeGroup, follow these steps:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. View your files in the left-hand pane.
3. Click the desired file to access it.

Libraries. Libraries are compromised of folders. These folders organize your common files (music, audio books) into one.

Device Stage. This feature handles your devices with little help from you. Just plug your device in, and Windows will recognize it. Windows works behind the scenes to make sure your device is connected and running instantly.

Federated Search. This tool allows you to perform searches outside of your computer.

Geographic Location. This tool simply allows others to know where you are when sending information. To set your default location, follow these steps:

1. Press Start.
2. Type loc.
3. Click Default Location. (Set you default location here.)
4. Click Apply.

Quick Tabs. This feature shows your open tabs all at once, for quick reference.

Automatic Crash Recovery. If for some reason Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Windows recovers your session, tabs and all.

There are many new and improved tools and features with Windows 7. Microsoft definitely had the user in mind when creating Windows 7.

I love the jump list feature in windows 7. It is a new UI feature that displays a list of recently opened documents in that application. Simply Right click on the icon on your taskbar and you will get a list of recently opened documents for that program.
