I have recently moved to windows 7. But I am having major issues with the PC hanging whenever I insert CD or DVD in my DVD drive.

Unplug all unnecessary hard drives and see if the issue can be resolved.

If you have installed any CD/DVD-burning software, then temporarily delete them from "Control Panel"-> "Programs and Features".

If there is no CD/DVD burning software installed then do the following steps
Start Start -> Control Panel ->Troubleshooting -> Hardware and Sound -> Playing and Burning CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray Discs to check if the problem can be found and resolved.

Check if the issue is still there in Clean Boot mode. However, if the issue still there in Clean Boot mode, then please reinstall the DVD ROM by the following steps:

1. Click the Start Button->Run->Type devmgmt.msc ->press Enter.
2. Expand "DVD/CD-ROM drives".
3. Rt-click the DVD-ROM drive, and click "Uninstall".
4. Restart the computer.
